Julia Holtmann
DRAWING
At once
Striving and
dwelling,
Now, holding
Before and after.
Between light and darkness,
Never blinded.
Seeking knowledge of that which cannot be grasped.
Eternal approximation,
Return to
Home.

Julia investigates the slow yet direct quality of her medium and the principle of addition, often excluding the option of erasure. Presuming knowledge accessible in immersion, she employs various self imposed techniques and strategies rooted in automatism. Influenced by her father's research in biology during her early childhood, surrounded by wild meadows that allowed space for insects and weeds, her visual language is strongly informed by the organic, botanical world.
